Our Issue: Minimum parcel size required in order to rezone to the timber production zone.
May 1 Update
The Board of Supervisors met today and again addressed the issue of the minimum size to be allowed for TP zoning. After hearing more public testimony and further deliberations, they moved to obtain more information from the Planning Department and County Counsel concerning interpretations of the wording of proposed ordinance and history from the 1970s leading up to the current TP designations. There was a good deal of discussion concerning notifying the affected landowners, but no motion was passed executing this notification. There was also discussion about providing a grace period wherein people wishing to rezone to TP to regain their right to harvest timber may do so without consideration of their parcel size. There is currently no length of time determined for this prospective grace period.
WHAT YOU CAN DO RIGHT NOW
Please spread the word to as many people as you can.
IF you own forest land and IF your acreage is less than 80 acres and IF you are not currently zoned TP and IF you wish to regain the right to harvest timber, you must get in line to rezone as soon as possible. Weigh your decision, you may need to make a choice between harvesting timber and other potential uses for your land. The county code lists what the uses compatible with TP are.
Also, spread the word that you must weigh in on this issue if you want to keep the minimum size at the current 5 acres. The smaller your parcel size, the more vulnerable you are. Anyone under 20 acres should be seriously concerned. Keep those letters coming and come to the Board of Supervisors meetings.
